Language World 2026

 Really enjoyed Language World 2026. Meeting old friends and online friends and new friends. It's always about recharging batteries and making connections, chatting over breakfast or standing in a queue.

My talk was about how languages has the benefit of many complementary facets: grammar, communication, usefulness, linguistics, culture, memorisation, self expression, risk taking, accuracy... All in half an hour.

Here it is. My manifesto for how to teach in the messy middle between the extremes where we are told everything we do is wrong:



I showed examples from the classroom and of pupils' work. But it may leave you with questions about exactly how we get Y9 working on spontaneous extended answers in speaking and writing.
